Firsthand Robotics records first person video of professional cleaners during real jobs and turns it into anonymized training data for robot learning teams. Because our product is built from recordings of real spaces, privacy is a core part of how we operate. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.

At a glance

  • Consent before capture

Every household and business opts in before any recording, and every episode is linked to a documented consent record.

  • No audio, identities blurred

Audio is removed. Faces, screens, photos, documents and addresses are blurred and checked by a person.

  • US only

Recorded only in San Francisco Bay Area homes and offices, annotated and reviewed in the US, and stored on AWS in the US West region.

  • Not for advertising

We never sell contact information or use it for advertising, and our website sets no advertising cookies.

  • Deletion on request

Participants can withdraw consent and ask us to delete their recordings at any time.

  • Anonymized before delivery

Customers receive recordings only after anonymization, and never receive the identity of a household, business or cleaner.

01

Who we are and what this covers

Firsthand Robotics ("we", "us") is based in San Francisco, California. This policy applies to:

  • Visitors to firsthandrobotics.com and people who contact us, book a call or request a sample.
  • Business customers and partners, and the people who work with us on their behalf.
  • Capture program participants: households and businesses that host recordings, the cleaners who wear our cameras, and anyone who appears in a recording.

It does not cover how our customers use data under their own policies once licensed to them, which is governed by our agreements with them.

02

Information we collect

When you visit our website or contact us

  • Contact details you send through our form: name, company, role, work email, the services you are interested in and your message.
  • Emails you send us and our replies.
  • Scheduling details when you book a call: name, email, time zone and your answers to booking questions.
  • Technical data our hosting and security providers process to deliver the site, such as IP address, browser type and request logs.

When you take part in our capture program

  • Consent records: the name and contact details of the person who authorized recording, the address of the space, the date, and the scope of consent.
  • Recordings: first person video of the space and the cleaner's hands and arms, captured on a head mounted camera during the job.
  • Session metadata: room type, timestamps, camera settings and calibration.
  • For cleaners: identity and contact details needed to record their consent and schedule sessions.

People who appear incidentally

Family members, staff or visitors may pass through a space during capture. Their faces are blurred before any recording leaves our processing pipeline.

03

How we use information

  • To respond to inquiries, schedule calls, send samples and manage customer relationships.
  • To run the capture program: obtain and record consent, schedule sessions and check recording quality.
  • To produce datasets: remove audio, blur identifying details, segment and annotate tasks, and deliver anonymized recordings to customers under license.
  • To secure our systems, prevent misuse and comply with legal obligations.

We do not use participant information for advertising, and we do not share participant contact details with customers.

04

How recordings are anonymized

Every recording goes through the same pipeline before it can be delivered:

  • Audio removed. Delivered data contains no audio tracks.
  • Faces, screens, photos, documents and addresses blurred.
  • Each episode checked by a person.
  • Consent linked by an internal record ID. Customers never receive the identity of a household, business or cleaner.

05

We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect rights and safety, or as part of a merger or acquisition, in which case this policy continues to apply.

06

Where data is stored and how it is protected

Recordings are captured only in the San Francisco Bay Area, annotated and reviewed in the United States, and stored on Amazon Web Services in the US West region. We do not collect or process recordings outside the United States.

Access is limited to the people who need it to run the program. We use access controls and the security features of our cloud providers, and we review our safeguards as we grow. No system is perfectly secure, so we design our pipeline to remove identifying details as early as possible.

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act, you have the right to know what personal information we collect and how we use it, to request deletion and correction, to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information, and to not be treated differently for exercising these rights. We do not sell or share personal information for advertising.

To make a request, email privacy@firsthandrobotics.com. We will verify your identity before acting on a request and respond within 45 days, as California law requires. An authorized agent may submit a request on your behalf.

Our website and services are intended for businesses and adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children through them.

Children may live in homes where we record. Their faces are blurred like everyone else's, and a parent or guardian can ask us to delete any recording at any time.
